week 7 post 2, Stockholms universitet ad

When spending a few days in Stockholm with a guest from the U.S, I spotted several ads for Stockholms Universitet in the underground transit areas. I was interested in what they were saying to their viewers that anxiously await the next train. This ad specifically suggests 'big picture' for studying at this school, and how it can contribute to society as a whole. I can assume from the translation of this ad that the other ads seen alongside this with a similar layout had taglines that suggested other study areas and problem solving associated with them. With this one specifically targeting climate and environmental studies, it shows the university as an advocate for the continuing research and solution to the global climate debates going on currently. With Sweden being known for having great concern with global warming and constantly encouraging other countries to join together, it can be seen here that the education system in Sweden is in favor of the government. I do wonder that since the schooling system in Sweden is provided to its citizens by the government is the reason why the ad has such a political ring to it. The ad can stand for a possible tension going on with school vs. state that since they are funded and provided for, they must sustain goals that agree with the government and help carry them out. By encouraging potential students to study the environmental sciences, the school is advocating for the government and not necessarily being critical of it.
